Abstract:  Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg is one of Chinese characteristics plants which has important medical value. Modern pharmacological studies had shown that it had good antitumor activity， and flavonoids were the major and functional components of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum. This paper provided a detailed description of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg from botany， chemical composition， toxicology and pharmacology， clinical applications， artificial cultivation and biotechnology， the future research directions of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg were also discussed， which could offer scientific references for its rational utilization as medicine and appropriate protection as endangered plant.
