Study on factors affecting rural labors non\|farm participation: based on survey data from five provinces in China

Abstract: In this paper, a large national sample data of 101 villages from five provinces in China was applied to study factors that influence rural labors work transfer from agriculture to non\|agriculture industry. Rural labors work was divided into three types, which were farming only, non\|farm only, and both. Then a multinomial logistic model was used to do empirical analysis. The results showed that personal characteristics, household characteristics, community characteristics, land transfer status, evaluation of public services and regions were important factors affecting their non\|farm participation. In order to transfer rural labors work from agriculture to non\|agricultural sectors, and effectively improve the income of farmers and promote rural development, basic education, training and guidance in rural areas should be strengthened, and non\|farm industries, road and other related infrastructural construction in rural area are supposed to be improved.
