Abstract: In order to study the effects of salt stress on seed germination of Chimonanthus praecox and reveal its resistant mechanism under salt stress, NaCl solutions at different concentrations were applied to the experiment of seed germination in Ch. praecox. Seed germination rate, germination potential, germination index, vigor index, survival rate and seedling root length, seedling length, root-shoot ratio were analyzed. The results showed as follows: Ch. praecox seeds had low salt stress tolerance (0.4% NaCl or less). The germination indexes were decreased with the increasing of NaCl concentration. When the concentration of NaCl was 1.2%, the intensity of stress was beyond the limit of seed germination for Ch. praecox. 0.2% NaCl had no effect on the growth of Ch. praecox seedlings, but high salt stress significantly inhibited the growth of Ch. praecox seedlings, the higher salt stress, the lower growth of Ch. praecox seedling and the lower survival rate.
