Abstract: A field experiment was conducted to determine effects of controlledrelease coated urea on grain yields and nitrogen use efficiency of rice variety Xiushui 134 under traditional flooding cultivation and nonflooded plastic film mulching cultivation. The results showed that the rice grain yields of single basal application of sulfurpolyester resincoated urea (SPCU 100%)under the nonflooded mulching and traditional flooding cultivation were increased by 5.7 and 9.7% (P<0.05), respectively; whereas nitrogen use efficiencies of these two treatment were improved by 110.3% and 78.4% (P<0.05), respectively, compared to the normal urea PU100% (N 180 kg·hm-2). Agronomic nitrogen use efficiencies were also significantly increased. Grain yields of rice with same N fertilizer rates under nonflooded plastic mulching cultivation were not significantly higher than that under traditional flooding cultivation, except the PU 100% treatment, but the nitrogen use efficiency were significantly higher.
