Abstract: The combining ability of ten major agronomic characters of F1 derived from 6 photosensitive japonica sterile lines and 6 japonica restorer lines was studied by incomplete diallel cross (NC II) design. The results showed that proportions of variance components for all agronomic traits were significant at 1% level. GCA (general combining ability) played a major role for panicle length, 1000\|grain weight, spikelets per panicle, filled grains per panicle, seed setting rate, dates from sowing to heading and flag leaf length. Grain weight per plant, plant height and effective panicles per plant were mainly controlled by SCA (special combining ability). No necessary connection between parental general combining ability and cross special combining ability was found. For sterile lines, Jia60A, Zhejing4A and Taijing1A were ideal parents, and HT236, HT214 and HT88 were recommendable restorer lines.
