Abstract: Although the application of chemical pesticides has greatly increased agricultural productivity in modern agriculture, it has also brought about environmental and other negative effects. The rice-based coculture system was demonstrated as a successful approach to rice pesticide reduction and green, efficient productive way. This paper discussed the controlling effects and mechanisms of representative rice-based coculture system on rice diseases, pests and weeds, and its effect on pesticide reduction. It is suggested that further studies should be strengthened on technology packages for culturing rice and fish to achieve sustainable development of agriculture in Zhejiang Province.
