Effect of fluorescein on seed germination and seedling growth in tobacco

Abstract

Abstract: The fluorescein is a common fluorescent dye. In present experiment, seeds of two tobacco cultivars, MS Yunyan 85 and Honghua Dajinyuan, were directly mixed with fluorescein powder. Then, seed germination performance, seedling growth and protective enzyme activities in tobacco seedlings were investigated. The results showed that fluorescein coating had no adverse effect on seed germination and seedling growth of tobacco. When the ratio of fluorescein powder was 100∶10, there was no significant difference in growth and physiological characteristics of two tobacco cultivars, MS Yunyan 85 and Honghua Dajinyuan, which indicated that the ratio of 100∶10 was optimal．
