Variety comparison experiment on Salvia splendens in spring

Abstract: The variety comparison experiment on 10 Salvia splendens varieties was carried out during 2011 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. The results showed that there was significant difference in growth period, botanical characteristics, ornamental characteristics and heat resistance among these varieties. Overall, imported varieties grew faster, but the flowering period of domestic varieties were generally longer, and their heat resistance was better than the imported varieties. In summary, the domestic varieties Shenzhouhong and Sainuoer, the imported varieties Vista Red and Emperor are more suitable for local climate in spring in Hangzhou.
