Abstract: Sediment is a very important treasury stock or releasing source of nutrients in water column, playing a significant role in aquatic ecosystems. The behavior of benthic macro?鄄invertebrate, such as feeding, excretion, burrows, biogenic structure building and so on,could change the clearance rate of sediment, surface composition, ability of deposition, microbial quantity and communities in sediment because of the living benthic macro?鄄invertebrate on the surface or in the middle of sediment;moreover, the process of nitrification and denitrification was stimulated, and the sediment nutrient fluxes were consequently affected. On the basis of a large number of documents at home and abroad, the influence of benthic macro-invertebrate bioturbation on the physical structure of sediments, microbial communities, nitrification and denitrification, stability of organic matter in sedimentsit was elaborated;and the research status of the effect of benthic macro-invertebrate on nutrient fluxes in sediment-water interface, methods of determination and calculation were introduced,in order to provide a better prediction of bioturbation effects on sediment biogeochemistry.
