Regulatory effects of different green manure management modes on soil physicochemical properties and bacterial communities in citrus orchards

Abstract:

To further clarify the effects of inter-row sod culture on improving the soil ecological environment of orchards, this study took citrus orchards as the research object and compared the impacts of different green manure management modes on soil physicochemical properties and bacterial communities. The results showed that the contents of alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, total nitrogen, inorganic phosphorus and soil organic matter were significantly (p<0.05) increased by 61.09%, 52.85%, 43.08% and 60.72%, respectively, after planting Trifolium repens. For Vicia dasycarpa cultivation, the contents of soil alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen and organic matter rose significantly by 15.88% and 55.85%, respectively. Planting Vulpia myuros significantly increased soil organic matter content by 31.70%. When Vulpia myuros was planted in greenhouse, the contents of soil alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen, total nitrogen and organic matter were significantly elevated by 48.52%, 18.03% and 60.87%, respectively. High-throughput sequencing was performed on the V3-V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene of soil bacteria, and sequence annotation against the Silva database identified a total of 43 phyla and 620 genera of microorganisms. The number of soil operational taxonomic units (OTUs) increased significantly by 17.17% and 23.98% in the treatments with Trifolium repens and Vulpia myuros cultivated in greenhouse, respectively, accompanied by an increase in soil microbial α-diversity. At the genus level, there were significant differences in the relative abundances of 56, 26, 20, 15 and 47 bacterial genera with the plantation of Trifolium repens, Vicia dasycarpa, Lolium perenne, Vulpia myuros, and Vulpia myuros in greenhouse, respectively. In conclusion, planting Trifolium repens in citrus orchards achieves the optimal effects in improving soil fertility and microbial diversity, and the combination with greenhouse facilities can further enhance the performance of sod culture management.
