Abstract: In order to understand the effects of high temperature stress and different sowing periods on growth and development of Salvia splendens, three cultivars were employed. Flowering and some morphological indexes, activities of peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) in leaves were examined. The results showed that there was less effect on the growth period of Salvia splendens at different sowing time from April 10th to May 25th, but greater impacts on the plant growth rate, flowering rate, survival rate and other morphological indexes were observed, which could be used as indicators for evaluating the heat-resistance of Salvia splendens. There was a certain relationship between the activity of POD and the heat-resistance of Salvia splendens.

Key words: Salvia splendens, high temperature, growth, peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT)
