Abstract: With the widespread resistance to antibiotics among pathogenic bacteria, it is particularly urgent to develop new antibiotic alternatives. Extensive studies have shown that phage and phage-encoded lytic enzymes (virolysins) were two of the most promising alternative antibacterials for the treatment and prophylaxis of bacterial infections. This review was focused on the recent advance of research and development and related applications in phage and lysins.
