Abstract: Field experiment was carried out on five olive varieties (i.e. Moraiolo, Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, Maurino) introduced from Italy to test their adaptability and productivity on costal land in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. The average yield per tree of Moraiolo was 21.97 kg at the age of six to eight years, being the highest among the five varieties; the yield of Frantoio was 12.57 kg and was the second among them. The trees of Moriolo and Frantoio grew strong with good vegetative growth, early fruitage and high setting percentage compared to the other three olive varieties (Leccino, Pendolino, Maurino). Thus, the adaptability of Moraiolo and Frantoio to the tested area was better than that of the other tested varieties, which indicated that Moraiolo and Frantoio had a potential value for practical utilization. However, the economic character of Leccino, Pendolino and Maurino was not well under the tested condition.
