The antibacterial activity of extracts of Sargassum thunbergii, Sargassum fusiforme and Laminaria japonica against Colon bacillus, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was tested by drugsensitive disk diffusion method. Antioxidant activities of these extracts were analyzed by DPPH free radical scavenging test. The extracts of three kinds of algae showed significant antibacterial activities against S. aureus. Nbutanol extracted from S. thunbergii had the highest antibacterial effects. DPPH tests revealed the extracts of S. thunbergii were more significantly antioxidant than extracts of other algae. And the antioxidant activity of the ethyl acetate extract of S. thunbergii was stronger than those of petroleum ether and nbutanol extracts of S. thunbergii.
